Hello,
I’m Doc Mason, a now retired ER Physician as of March 2020, after a little better than 38 years in the trenches. I have been playing guitar for about 55 years and started writing songs in 1985, at the age of 35. Back in the early days, I played around the Fredericksburg, Texas area where I reside, including The Luckenbach Dance Hall, and around parts in all directions. I recorded two records between 1990 - 1995, but I had to decide on whether or not to be a doctor or a road weary musician. Raising 5 children took a bit of time and ultimately that took precedence over neon lights, but my love for music and songwriting continued.
Around 2003, with a good number of songs needing to be recorded, I took out a small business loan and bought some recording equipment including a Macintosh computer that is still chugging along to this day. Over the years since then, I have recorded 10 additional full length recording projects using my own equipment and ingenuity. In addition, I also transferred an 8 track reel to reel recording of Doc Mason & Good Medicine: “We Got Our Dancin’ Shoes On,” which was recorded in 1990. I was able to mix and edit the tracks from the old magnetic tape recordings after using my new equipment to transform them into digital files. I have been working on a total of 11 “records” and as it turns out, I am finishing my mixing on all of them at once.
I have been working hard, at all hours of the night and day since September, when I set out to finalize the mixes of all my records. Now I am hoping you will take the time to listen. My wish would be for the music to be soothing to your ears and the words food for your soul.
Happy listening,
Doc Mason

I realize it might appear that I have been less than active recently, but behind the scenes, I have been working diligently, at all hours, to improve my mixes of the songs for the record albums I have personally produced over the past 35 years. Over that time, I gradually gained a better understanding of the mixing process, mostly through trial and error, unfortunately. Unfortunate only for the time it ultimately took. I finally began to discover how best to use the technology I have to fix most of the imperfections that ultimately show up. I could try to explain the details of the process, but you might fall asleep. What you need to know is that since September, 2024, I have mixed and remixed every song multiple times, always finding ways to solve problems and get the music to a point where I felt it was ready to be heard. I believe I have reached that point. It took every bit of 20 years, but this is the time. I believe that I have done the best I can with what I was given. That is what I want to be remembered for.
